We're on a home exchange in the mountains near Santa Fe, NM, and the home is adorned inside and out with the host's handiwork. It's quite amazing. She did her own kitchen, bath, entryways... and then moved out to the landscaping with handmade ceramic tile on benches, gates, arches, entry sign. There are totems and masks and figures everywhere.
A glance through the trees reveals my favorite touch – a few colorful ceramic birds sitting prettily on the branches. It's been such fun!

Wow, Patricia, I love Sante Fe and the surrounding area. How did you come to do a home exchange? I wouldn't mind doing that.
Oops, also meant to say have a great time, which I just know you are doing.
lucky ducky!
i envy being able to make home stuff out of clay and put it all around, especially tiles in and around the house... but alas those projects always take a back burner
What fun! I love that area and would love to go back- maybe they need a house to stay in in NC!
Hi everybody - Yea, the home exchange is a sweet deal. Go to homeexchange.com and check it out. We've done exchanges in Virginia, Washington DC, northern California and now Santa Fe. Haven't ventured overseas with it, but we know lots of people who have. You not only get a "free" place to stay, but you really get to feel like a part of the community where you're visiting. Plus, the homeowners have always provided us with tips on where to go, what to do. It's really fun - if have more of the attitude of being an "adventurer" than a tourist!
Very cool - we've been looking at home exchanges too. Which site did you use to make a connection (unless of course you already know the person)?
Love the ceramic birds - hope you'll share more photos because it sounds like a fabulous place.
Oops - of course - I just saw the url in a response to someone else..
Thanks Patricia for the link.
