Scrafitto

I've been playing with scrafitto over the last few weeks... These will go into the bisque with some of the new mugs.

After the bisque firing and before
glazing, I'll have to go back to these with black underglaze along the joined areas that I waxed before deciding to do the scrafitto... (I waxed them right after doing altering and additions to reduce the chance of drying too fast and cracking along the joined areas.)

Sometimes I don't think these things through very well! My motto seems to be "Act and THEN re-act!"

To see a master at scraffito and drawing on pots, check out Jeff Martin's work at his blog or his ETSY store. He is an amazing artist and thinker. I love his work and the way he can convey a thought or a feeling.

I like these, they remind me a lot of Jeff Martin's work. If you haven't already checked it out he has a blog at jeffmartinceramics.blogspot I think.

Hi Ang! Challenge? What Challenge? Ha!... Actually, I did still manage to get 5 more cups added to the line-up today. I'm still going for it!

Hi Deborah - Thanks, and what a compliment to be reminded of Jeff's work. I'm familiar. In fact, mentioned him further down in my post and linked to his site and his Etsy store. I'm in love with his brain. (Jeff, if you're reading this, don't be freaked out. I'm an old married lady. Not a stalker or anything weird like that.)

Fun! Glad to see some other examples of Scrafitto. I have been trying this but not sure I'm going to be able to stick with it -the scraping sound gets to me! I was thinking of trying it with the greenware a bit more damp, and explore different tools(?) You can see the fish I did on my Blog -I don't think mine are nearly as accomplished as yours or Jeff's!

Cindy from up North - the fish you have on your blog are AWESOME! I love them. Thanks for visiting here. Love your blog and have added it to my roll.
