Take a hammer to your dreams?

In the process of moving the studio, this old piece resurfaced... I just couldn't toss her in the "junk heap" so she's now stuck in a corner of my new place.

Called "Dream On," the sculpture is of a woman's head up on two pillows. At one point, she had a propellor on her head but that broke off a couple of years ago...

Maybe I'll put her in the yard at the house somewhere. I just couldn't take the hammer to her.

What do you this is the best process to follow with early work? Smash it? Save it? Give it away?

send her to me! that is what you should do. i like her. i often give away work that has been sitting around, someone is hanging around, says" i like this piece"..i says "take it" good ribbons, or rethens, or whatever the saying is..other-wise i will sell it as a second at the farmers market or throw it in the never used "future mosiac project i will probably never do box"...

I think she would make a great kiln goddess! Gay

Oh, she's much too nice to take a hammer to - what a surprise she'd be in the garden. One potter I saw takes a hammer to his rejects and packages them up and sells them for whatever his etsy fee plus postage is. A mosaic artist purchased them and later sent him a photo of what she made.

I have a box of ceramic pieces sitting in my yard right now waiting for the hammer!

I have kept a couple of pieces from over the years for posterity, but wish some of my pieces weren't floating out there in the universe with my name attached to them. Sometimes, I think beginning students shouldn't put their work into the world until it's matured a bit.

I agree - this sculpture would make a great kiln goddess!

I too - think she's too wonderful for the hammer. As a kiln goddess - she should be grateful for being saved & give you great pots -- or she would be cool in the garden as well.

I love finding those old pots and wondering 'what was I thinking when I made that?!' lol

I vote for the garden as well- Many of us put pots in our gardens it gives a nice touch. The only problem is when customers "dig" them out and bring them in to see if they can buy them.
She would look great anywhere.

Hi Everybody! The verdict is in. She lives on! Kiln Goddess that she is. You all are so sweet. Thanks! (Jeff, If she weren't so damn heavy, she would be winging it your way!)

I think she would make a great kiln goddess or garden guardian or kitchen witch - good one of course! I'm a lousy one to tell you to take a hammer to her, I'm a recovering packrat who falls off the wagon a lot.
Since there are more than one of us that would like her, if you decide you want to part with her, raffle her off so one of us can win her....LOL!
