With an achy back this weekend, I stayed away from the wheel and did a little work with art tiles. I really enjoy times when the pressure to produce is "off" and I can just play with images. Here are some pics of tile work before bisque. Some are carved relief and I'll go back later and put some underglaze washes or oxides on them. The castle bird and spider already have the underglaze and just need to be bisque-fired. Then I'll layer with other images or glaze. Not sure yet.

WOW ! TILES FOR YOU TOO? How funny. My back is OK, but I like to vary my activities, plus it is fun to get off the wheel sometimes. 12 Years I fell on some stairs and had awful tendonitis for awhile in my injured right wrist, and decided to make sure I varied my work habits to avoid pains. This past winter, dammit, I fell on the ice walking on the street twice and both times turned back my left wrist. It has been very sore at times ever since. Stupid reason to have injuries, though, isn't it? The guy I apprenticed to produces 8,000-10,000 pieces a year, and has had 2 spinal operations and has the body of a very old man.....
I have the tiniest wrists, btw.
We love visiting Cambria when we can and never knew there was a ceramics studio/gallery there. As soon as the weather cools, we'll be headed to the coast and will definitely be stopping in for a visit to your shop.
Love the tiles and washes especially the turquoise (one of my favorite colors). Hope you post them fired.
Thanks for adding me to your blog roll. I'll add you to my blog roll and I will be subscribing to your posts too. We're expecting 102 today. I need a coastal fix soon.
Hi...Love your 'artistic' tiles, I agree sometimes you just need to do creative playing without pressure, it is good for the psyche and good for the soul!
These are so much fun, Patricia! I haven't thrown in such a long time now...
