Trilliums, Hawaii and Mermaid Ocarinas

The Trilliums Annual Retreat was held this year in Hawaii, where ceramic artist Alysia Samaru has a great studio with the Kona Potters. We visited her gallery outlets. See above for a photo from the personal concert she gave on her "mermaid ocarina."

A visit to Kona Potters

We spent some time at Alysia Samaru's studio at the Kona Potters Guild in Hawaii. She starts her day in the studio in the early morning, and breaks for a swim in the ocean before lunch. Then it's back in the studio, or her impressive garden, or a session teaching at the local elementary school. What a life!

Basket-Making 101

Ok, so it's not pottery... But it does involve form and decorating. Alysia, Phyliss and I took a basket-making workshop in Hawaii. Talk about instant gratification! No waiting for drying, bisque firing, glazing, another firing. Check out our baskets!

Trilliums gathering in Hawaii

The Trilliums are meeting in Hawaii this year! 

We have a reunion every year and spend a week doing pottery, talking pottery, seeing other potters' work. It's a blast.
